East Coast College and Sizewell C launch employability hub in Lowestoft
East Coast College in Suffolk has launched a brand-new employability hub, Nucleus, in partnership with Sizewell C.
Nucleus aims to provide employment search assistance and application and interview support to those looking to secure employment in the region.
Located at the College’s Lowestoft Campus, Nucleus will bring together services, training, and employability expertise to reach an untapped local workforce. It aims to combine the best practices of existing specialist stakeholders to provide pathways into employment, offering more opportunities to develop skills and find employment opportunities.
Rachel Bunn, Director of Commercial, Projects and Community said: “Nucleus enables us to work in partnership and collaboration in region. The Employment Hub will see opportunities for anyone to explore support, skills and training using a multi-disciplinary approach to support positive progression in employment opportunities.”
Services available at the hub will include:
- Job service sign-ups
- Referral services
- CV and application advice
- Interview preparation support
- Interview management services
- Employability short courses
- Access to employers at Sizewell C and in the region
- Key training
- Referrals to upskilling and other related vocational courses
Chris Young, Head of Employment Affairs Unit at Sizewell C, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to support East Coast College to launch Nucleus. It’s going to provide exactly the kind of long-term legacy that we want to leave for this area – offering local people access to training and skills development, and the insights to access the best opportunities, not only on our project but across the region.”
In September, Sizewell C reaffirmed its commitment to Lowestoft by announcing a new agreement with Access Community Trust. The agreement will see SAMS Wellbeing Hub and Café in Lowestoft extend its provision for those in need in Lowestoft and be an important base for the project to grow awareness and access to jobs with Sizewell C.
Sizewell C is ramping up activity across the region to further open up the many opportunities that the project offers to the East of England. It recently announced a jobs pledge to guarantee 500 roles for people in Ipswich, while its first jobs fair with DWP in Leiston attracted over two hundred people and brought together suppliers, local colleges, and charities.
